My Board experience as Secretary & Promotion Officer

Board Blog: Tessa Rip

Hey everyone! My name is Tessa Rip, and I am the Secretary & Promotion of this year’s TeMa Board! I am 23 years old and currently finishing my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with the track Technology Management. Last year, I joined TeMa after moving to Groningen because I wanted to meet new people. I became part of two committees: the Activity Committee and the Media Team. Both experiences were amazing, but it was within the Media Team that I discovered how much I enjoy promotion, especially working on projects like our Lustrum Almanac. In addition, I really appreciated the open and welcoming culture of TeMa. Last year, I felt at home right away and truly enjoyed all the activities and the friendly atmosphere within the association. That’s why I decided to do a Board year and take on the role of Secretary & Promotion Officer, which turned out to be the best decision I could have made!

What my week looks like

From Monday to Thursday, you can find me at our Hok, working on my to-do’s or chatting with our members. On Monday and Thursday mornings, we have our Board meetings until around 12:00. During these meetings, I take the minutes, ensure the important points are highlighted, and set up the to-do’s for each Board member. The rest of the week, I have a lot of freedom to work through my to-do list. We also always eat lunch together around 12:00, often joined by many of our members!

In the evenings, we often have events, sometimes organised by us and sometimes by other (study) associations. We also frequently mix with one of our committees or even with multiple committees, like during a megamix! Additionally, we sometimes mix with other Boards from different (study) associations. These activities make a Board year even more fun, as you get to meet so many people!

If we don’t have anything planned in the evening, I like to spend time with my roommates doing something fun or just relax and take some time for myself, which is also nice and still very possible during my Board year. And on Fridays, I work at MAAK, where I am the Online Content Creator.

What my daily tasks are

This function offers a lot of variety, making it an interesting and enriching experience throughout the year. As the name of the function suggests, I am responsible for the promotion of the association. This includes, among other things, creating Instagram posts and stories, as well as LinkedIn posts. In my role as Secretary, I take minutes during meetings and manage all incoming and outgoing communication for the association. In addition, I am in charge of updating the website, writing the monthly newsletter, overseeing the annual planning, and guiding the PRs of the committees, as well as the Marketing Committee. Together with the Internal Relations Officer, I am also responsible for the publication of our newly introduced TeMagazine!

My experience so far

So far, this Board year has been a great experience for me! I have met so many new people, had opportunities to network, and learned so much, not only within my own role but also beyond it, things I could never have learned from my studies alone. This experience has helped me grow both professionally and socially.

I have also built lifelong friendships with my fellow Board members. Working so closely together has created a strong bond, and I know I can always count on them. I highly recommend this experience to all of you!
