ComCom: beat the Committees and more to come!

Introduction of the ComCom
This year, TeMa's Board introduced the Committee Competition, ComCom for short. Being even more successful than anticipated, our Board, and in particular Internal Relations Officer Emil, organized a compelling competition among the active members. This competition started at the Active Members Weekend in November last year, through ‘the Crazy 69’, and it lasted until the Mid-Year Party of this year. The concept of the ComCom is as follows: during this three-month period, all the different committees battle against each other in order to win amazing prizes. By succeeding in different challenges, members of a committee can earn points individually or together as a committee. 

Top 3 ranking
As the first ComCom came to an end on the 14th of February, the nerve-racking ranking announcement took place. All the committees were very determined to win first place. The top three winners are listed below:  

First place: The committee that placed first was the Career Committee with an astonishing total of 238 points, confirming their position as the winner of the first ComCom! The first prize includes an all-you-can-eat-and-drink night for the whole committee, which most certainly won’t go to waste.

Second place: With a total of 164 points, the International Committee placed second and won a Beer Tasting evening. Which in case of allergies could be switched to a different kind of tasting event of choice. No matter the type of tasting, the International Committee will for sure have a great evening together to celebrate this accomplishment. 

Third place: The Activity Committee got third place with 164 accumulated points, which got them a special Cocktail Package to celebrate their accomplishment. Hopefully this delicious package will be used for an enjoyable committee evening. 

Tactics
After analyzing the results, it was quite clear why the Career Committee placed first. The committee was able to gain a great number of points during the Weekend Trip, which may or may not have been their tactic from the start. There were a lot of small challenges, such as ‘walk longer than an hour, ‘perform a wall sit for two whole minutes’, ‘watch a movie with your committee’, ‘play 30 seconds with your whole committee’, and last but not least ‘chugging a beer in Assen’. The perfect opportunity to create an insurmountable lead in a short period of time.

Interesting results
The most remarkable thing was the attendance of all the active members. Evidently, the results showed that being present at TeMa’s events yielded the most points. Committee members could gain 1 point for attending socials, 3 points for attending a study-related event, and 5 points for attending a career event. This resulted in an unexpected total of 295 points. Additionally, almost all committees have been able to score 10 points by submitting a committee photo. 

Each committee has scored points through holding a ‘Mix’. Committees have mixed with another committee four times, which earned those committees 3 points. On five occasions, committees have done a mix with the board, which earned them 5 points. Finally, the only committee that has scored 10 points by holding a Transfer Dinner, was the Activity Committee. 

Sustainability vision
The ComCom is originally created with the aim of building a better relationship with the members within your committee and from other committees. However, through the ComCom, the vision of sustainability was also able to be encouraged. By rewarding the donation of clothing to charity, by making people choose vegetarian snacks more often after going out, and by encouraging people to exercise, the ComCom has been able to improve the sustainability of TeMa's active members.

New ComCom, new opportunity’s
Looking back at this crazy competition and all the great memories, it was definitely a huge success. Because of this, a new ComCom will start on the 21st of March, which will last until the 20th of June. Will the Career Committee reclaim its first place? Or will another committee take the throne? Get ready to face new and exciting challenges, to compete for great prizes. So if you did not actively participate during the last ComCom, this is your chance to redeem yourself and your committee. If you are a new TeMa member and are excited about competing in the ComCom, you have until the 28th of February to apply for a committee. So don't wait any longer and sign up for a committee of your choice and compete with the current top 3 for the ComCom title and prizes.  With that being said, we are extremely excited to compete with you during the next ComCom!
