Dear reader,
In this blog I will bring you along in the wonderful life of the treasurer and vice chairman of the TeMa Board. After nine months in these positions I can hopefully give a good overview of being the Board of our association. For those who don’t know me, my name is Ruurd Dobber. I am 22 years old and outside of the Board I am trying to get my final ECTS for my bachelor BDK-TM. I’ve been chairman of our ISP Committee, organizing a legendary trip to Krakow. After this I became chairman of our International Committee, organizing an evening of 8-ball pool and a beer tasting/pub quiz. Outside of TeMa I’m living the civilian lifestyle with my girlfriend, I love cooking chorizo pasta and during the weekend I prefer to spend my time on the couch devouring a show on Netflix.
Why a board year? As an active member at TeMa I’d already had a wonderful time. Next to this I felt student life was flying by. I was searching for a big project to take on next to my studies. Also, I wanted to develop myself, I wanted to sharpen my organisation skills and learn to speak for big crowds. Before I took the plunge and applied, I asked the previous Board about the content of a board year, their expectations of me and what I could get out of it. I’d love to share this information with you. If you have questions about a board year you can always reach me at +31-6-27115750.
As treasurer I am responsible for the finances of TeMa. During our candidate period I was mostly working on creating a budget. I loved thinking about how we would develop our policy points financially. Starting in September I was busy with developing the finances of our activities. This is not a job you have to do alone. You are supported by all the treasurers in your committee and your audit committee. Furthermore, I am responsible for the bookkeeping of TeMa. With my bookkeeping programme, Twinfield, I can quickly get an overview of our spending in previous years, payments due from companies, our creditors and much more.
Next to my duties I am also vice chairman of TeMa. In this role I am responsible for introduction talks that Feiko can’t attend for example. With the chairman I am involved in completing our policy points next to the daily operations. Most of all as a Board member you are present at (almost) all of our activities. You form a close connection to the rest of your board and your active members. Next to this you socialize with all the boards in the offices next to ours and you meet nice and inspiring companies. The highlights of my year are the many constitutional drinks, where together with many other boards you celebrate the start of a board year while enjoying some beers.
Now that this blog is over I hope you have more of an overview of my tasks at TeMa. Would you like to be in my position next year? Don’t hesitate to apply for a position on the TeMa board. Do you have any other questions? Please get in contact with me and we can drink a cup of coffee or a beer together.
Joe Joe!
