Board Blog: Secretary & Promotion officer Jennifer

Heeey! I am Jennifer, the Secretary and Promotion officer of the 14th TeMa Board! In this blog, I will tell you everything about my function, my personal experience and a board year in general. In case you have any questions, feel free to contact me via secretary@temagroningen.nl

What my week looks like

My week starts with a board meeting at Zernike. We have two board meetings a week. During a board meeting, we evaluate the events of last week and discuss all the tasks and events that we look forward to this week/month. On Monday evening we have board night! That means we hang out and have dinner at one of our homes. During the other days, we are busy preparing for our own events or we will go to a social event from one of the other Boards. In my spare time, I like to go running or play squash at the ACLO with my friends. In the weekends, I often visit my parents at home or keep up with my studies, as I am still following courses beside my board year.

What my daily tasks are

As the secretary, you are responsible of the minutes (notulen) of the board meetings. Most of the time, I will be in 't hok (the board room) making promotional posts for social media or updates on the website. You are responsible for for all external communication of the association, the annual planning, the monthly newsletter and maintaining the website. That means that this function contains a lot of variety, which I really like! I also guide all the PR's of the committees and ofcourse the Media Team.

What qualities suit a Secretary & Promotion Officer?

You have to be very well-organised, great at planning and also creative. The board agenda, social media channels and the website have to be up-to-date and need to look very neat. You will be working with different kinds of programs when you are making promotional posts or merchandise, so it is a must to have a creative mind! It is not necessary to have experience in Indesign or Premier Pro, you just need to be eager to learn how to work with the programs and it will eventually become easier.

What I like most about being part of the TeMa Board

Why did I choose a board year? For me, I am always open for challenges and trying out new things. So, this was a great opportunity to put myself out there! You will meet a lot of new people, organise a variety of events and develop yourself socially and professionally. During these months, you will get to know yourself and your board members better, be motivated to improve your qualities and learn a lot of things you otherwise wouldn’t have learned during your studies. Looking back, I would say I really enjoyed the past half year and I am very excited for what is yet to come in the upcoming half year!
