Board blog: Secretary & Promotion Gwen

Hey! My name is Gwen and I am the Secretary (Seccie) and Promotion of the TeMa Board. In this blog, I will tell you everything you need to know about my function and my experience this year. I hope the blog excites you and if you have any questions, you can always contact me!

What my week looks like

My week starts off with the Board meeting that we have on Monday morning at our Board room at Zernike Duisenberg. Here we discuss all the tasks and events that we look forward to. We also discuss what we’ve been working on these past days. After this we all work on our personal tasks. You are free to schedule your day however fits best! At night, we always eat with the Board at one of our houses. After that, we usually go to a social event of our own or of one from the other Boards. All the nights of the months of September till November, you have the opportunity to go to Socials of other associations to meet them. In this period, you will meet loads of new people! On Tuesday, I spent the night with my roommates, Wednesday with my friends from the sorority Albertus and on the weekend, I work part-time at Belsimpel at the Subscription Department. Sometimes we do something fun with the Board on the weekend, but usually, I have no tasks and only spare time so I can relax from all the Socials.

What my daily tasks are

As Secretary, I’m responsible for all external communication of the association, the annual planning, the monthly newsletter and maintaining the website. Besides being secretary, this function also contains responsibility for the promotion such as Social Media and merchandise. Furthermore, I take notes of all the meetings. Together with the rest of the Board, we also work on our policy for the year. We try to add value to TeMa as an association for the long term, by working on sustainable developments.

What qualities suit a Seccie & Promo Officer?

I think the most important qualities of a Seccie are to be well organized and spot on with keeping the planning in check. You must be able to work in a well-structured manner because the work of a secretary can be very multifaceted. In addition to your secretarial tasks, you are also responsible for all promotional activities, which means you have to be somewhat creative. A good promotion officer keeps track of which activities and etc. need more promotion. Of course, it is also important that you are a bit of a perfectionist so that the posts look neat and the newsletters and other communication have no errors.

What I like most about being part of the TeMa Board

I think the best thing is that you learn a lot about yourself like what your qualities are, what kind of work you enjoy and how to socialize. In my opinion, I learned more from my board year than from my bachelor's. Furthermore, I have met so many fun people at the socials and from our association. It is great to be part of a little family like the Board. We go through everything together so you grow very close to each other. I would recommend everyone to do a board year to anyone who would like to have a great year! If you have any questions, you can always contact me!
