Dear TeMa-members,
My name is Danny Kempinga. Last year I finished my Masters in TOM and I’m therefore allowed to be called an alumnus member of TeMa. Despite all the fun I had during my student time, starting with four years of Technical Engineering at the Hanze and after that two years of studying (pre)masters TOM, I finished studying. After this, I started to look for a job. I immediately knew what I wanted to do. In my job, I wanted to have the opportunity to continuously improve myself and be close to the actual business. Obvious, a traineeship would suit me best, but I didn’t have a clue at what company this should be. Therefore, I visited varying companies in all different branches. I spoke with several secondment agencies, production companies, and technical service providers.
In the end, just one company fitted my expectations, ENGIE, so the choice was made easily. You might know ENGIE as the sustainable energy supplier, but ENGIE is a lot more than that. ENGIE is also the biggest technical service provider of the Netherlands. As a technical service provider, I design, realize, maintain and manage ENGIE’s innovative and integral solutions for a broad range of customers in the industry, infrastructure, and utility. ENGIE supports her customers by becoming more sustainable and to optimize their operations to fasten energy transition.
The sustainability mission and the diversity of ENGIE really appealed to me. Combined with the good content of the traineeship were the reasons why I choose for ENGIE. Luckily, ENGIE also considered me as a good candidate for the management trainee. I already participated in this trainee before I finished my Masters officially.
Within the traineeship, I execute assignments in about four months. In these four months, I have been given the opportunity to get to know ENGIE, myself, and to develop myself continuously. I just started my third assignment in which I’m held responsible for the coordination of all revisions we do in terms of propelling for one of the water authorities. Within these projects, I’m responsible in terms of operations and finance. This means that I tune the activities with the customer and I take care that the right people and the right material are available to execute the job. The most fun part of this particular assignment is the fact that you need to switch between several levels. One moment you’re having a conversation with the customer and then the next moment you’re in the middle of the construction site.
Besides my own assignments, I’m also involved in a business case from the board of directors. During this business case I work together with four fellow trainees to solve a strategic question, related to the goals of the organization. This case is really challenging for us and we got the opportunity to make a difference on strategic level and at the same time building a big network on national and management level.
Besides my work within ENGIE, I also value social activities. Within ENGIE we have got a Young Professional Club, called NXT. NXT organizes each month the VrijMiBo, the annual Wintersport, and various activities. We already went sailing and visited the construction site of a solar parc. Altogether, enough moments to get to know your colleagues outside office hours!
Would you like to get to know more about the traineeship ENGIE has to offer or do you have a question about ENGIE in general? Visit the Publecture on the 27th of May during the Lustrum! I will be present during this educative evening together with a couple of my fellow trainees. The theme of this evening is: “Moving to the future: becoming sustainable by going digital”
