Board blog: Joëlle Smit
Heey, my name is Joëlle Smit, and I am the Secretary & Promotion Officer of the 15th TeMa Board! Last year, I fulfilled the same role in the Sustainability Event Committee. This was a great experience for me, helping me realise how much fun being part of a committee can be! After that, I took the next step and applied for the board, and I haven’t regretted it ever since. During my time as a committee member and also a board member, I managed to finish my bachelor business administration in Technology Management. In this blog, I will tell you about my life as a Board member and the tasks associated with my function as Secretary & Promotion Officer at TeMa.
What my week looks like
On Mondays we kick-off the week with a board meeting. This is a great way to start the week since everyone gets updated on each other’s weekend activities. Besides, we talk about our upcoming events and evaluate those that have already taken place. On Thursdays’, we hold our second board meeting. During these meetings, I will take the minutes and ensure the important points are highlighted, and set up the to do’s for each board member. From Monday to Thursday you can find me at our Office at the Interim where I go through my to do’s and enjoy chatting with TeMa members and other board members of the different study associations at the Interim.
What my daily tasks are
This function offers a lot of variety, making it a really interesting and instructive experience throughout the year. As the name of the function suggests, I am, among other things, responsible for various things, including the promotion of the association. This involves creating Instagram posts & stories, as well as LinkedIn posts. Additionally, I take minutes during meetings and manage all incoming and outgoing communication for the association. I am also responsible for updating the website, writing the monthly newsletter, overseeing the annual planning and guiding the PR’s of the committees and of course the Media Team.
My experience so far
This Board year has already been a great experience for me! I have met lots of new people, had an important role in organising great events and really developed myself professionally and socially. As a Board member, you grow closer to each other, and you can always rely on one another. I can highly recommend it to all of you!
