Dear TeMa member,
Thanks for taking the time to read this blogpost! My name is Robert van der Wielen. As a former active member of TeMa, graduate of MSc Supply Chain Management and currently employed by Nestlé, I would like to share my story with you.
At the start of my Master study, I joined TeMa as an active member. I wanted to get to know new people and organize fun activities every month. Therefore, I joined the Social Committee. It turned out to be a good choice, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I was kind of obliged to attend the socials every month. Even when I was very busy with studying, I was there. In other words, there was no obstacle anymore to go. Secondly, you get to know lots of people. During the same year, I also joined the International Study Project to Hamburg. A beautiful experience, visiting large companies like Hamburg Süd and Kuehne + Nagel. At the end of the trip, I could add around thirty people to my network. Thirty people who I share a nice experience with. I can recommend ISP to anyone! In short, the big advantage of the TeMa membership was for me that I got to know many fun people. Fun people which I could meet in a later stage of my life, as many of them are going to work in Supply Chain related jobs.
A month after graduating, I received a contract offer from Nestlé in Amstelveen. If you don’t know Nestlé; we sell Kitkat, Nescafé, Maggi, and many more brands. The reason I chose for Nestlé? The FMCG market attracts me. Every few weeks we have some new products launched, either completely new products/variants or slightly modified products. This is a big challenge for logistics, planning, procurement, and other teams. There is never a dull moment in FMCG. Why Nestlé chose me? The Operations department is a big fan of Supply Chain or Logistics graduates with commercial affinity. Currently, there are several vacancies for Supply Chain or Logistics graduates at our department. Nice starter positions in Front or Back Office. At the moment, I work at the Front Office. Both Front and Back Office are very nice teams to get to know Nestlé. I have weekly contact with many departments and teams, such as Back Office, Planning, IT, Sales, Marketing, and so on.
You might wonder how the working life will be. I think it is great. There is more time for hobbies; outside office hours, I really am off work. During my studies instead, I thought about study almost every day. Additionally, there is more money for travelling during the working life, and you can go outside the peak season. I just came back from Thailand, have been to Dubai during Christmas, and I am currently planning the next trip to the South of Spain in October. In short, start looking forward to the working life. It’s okay.
I hope you have enjoyed reading this blog. Maybe see you in the future at Nestlé or another place!
